About:China Transit Visa

Hello,

I'm an American citizen but a resident of South Korea (I work as an ESL teacher in Seoul). I am flying to Singapore on June 24, connecting through Beijing. Since I will only be in the Beijing airport for a short time for an international connection, I understand that I do not require a transit visa.

Coming back to Seoul, I will depart from Singapore and connect through Chengdu. Then my plane will stop in Hefei (no plane change) before ultimately landing at Incheon. Once again, I will *not* be leaving the airports during my transfers, and the total flight time is less than 24 hours.

I am flying Air China for all of my flights (booked through Travelocity).

For this return journey, will I require a transit visa since I will be landing at two different Chinese airports? Or, since I am not actually entering PRC and my "Singapore-->Seoul" itinerary is less than 24 hours, will I be okay to fly without a Chinese visa?

Please advise; thanks!

Regards,

Joe Dugan

You can transit this two cities in China without a visa, but you need to apply for a Settle Permit through China Border Checkpoint.

Thanks for your reply. Do I apply for a Settle Permit in both Chengdu and Hefei? How do I go about applying for the permit; can I take care of it at the airport, or must I do something in advance of my trip? And what is the cost associated with this permit?

Please advise; thanks!

It should be granted in both cities. I am sorry for the detail information, but I believe the airport will provide the greatest convenience to visitors. Best wishes.
