About:Chinese Greetings

I love this site and wish I had found it a while ago. Thanks!.
I have a slightly different situation coming up - I have a new chinese friend at work here in the US ( we both work for Microsoft ) and he and his family are new to the US and don't know too many people. I've invited them to our home for a fourth of july party. He's also bringing his mother. I'd like to help them to feel comfortable so they can enjoy the event. They won't be the only people there - we have large parties :) I'd also like to properly greet my friends mother and his wife and young daughter (I'm assuming that they speak english ) and not look like an idiot in the process - its very important to me to get greetings correct. What would be the best way for me to do this? ( its an informal situation ).
Also - we have 2 large dogs who love people, and I'd like to know if there's anything different we should do with them? both the dogs love children, but they are big and fast and could be scary to a small child. Am I worrying too much ?
Thank you for any help you can give.

Don't be so nervous about this. BEcause they are new to US and will know other people in the party, so it is better not let him and his family alone, I mean they may be shy to talk with others, or perhaps not if he is pleasant and sociable person. As to the dogs, you can inform them in advance that there are two big but friendly dogs in your house and will this be a matter to them? If the child is small, prevent dogs running to her suddenly. Do not worry too much. I think his family must be very happy to receive your invitation. Have fun!
