About:History of Silk Road

How is the silk road different than any of the other trade routes in china. I also just went to a museum and the guide said that if somebody died on the silk road their comrade or whoever they were traveling with buried them. Then the bodies dried out because of the harsh weather conditions in the Gobi desert. Is that true?
