About:Chinese Jade

I received a white jade bangle bracelet as a gift. It is too small to go over my hand. Is there any way that I can have this piece cut in to and attach a hinge and clasp so that I can wear it or would this destroy the piece? I don't know the value of this piece so I don't know if it's worth trying or not. What do I do with a piece of jewelry that can't be worn?

If it is a really tight you could try getting it on by slipping a plastic bag over your hand and then see if the bracelet will slide over the plastic.
Jade varies a lot in price-depends on the colour, whether it is dyed, jadeite or nephrite, how thick it is etc- my sister has a lilac jade bracelet for which she paid 900 after haggling it down from 3000. If it is real jade (lots of imitations around) it could be worth having a hinge made but probably better done in the far east ewhere they would have a better idea of its value.
