About:Chinese Consulate in Toronto

Hi. I am a Canadian citizen and my husband and I are trying to adopt a baby here in Canada, but because I lived in China for one year (2000-2001), I need to get a police record check from China so we can be approved for adoption. Can you tell me how I can get a police check from China?

You have to go to China in person to get the police record check from the local police station which has the jurisdition over your former residence in China. It is not hard to get the police record, just give a certificate that you don't have criminal record in China.

I understand your concern and perhaps difficulty in getting a police check from China. Recently married my wife is from the Philippines and I am sponsoring her to Canada...several years ago she worked in Taiwan for a few years followed by China..where she worked between 2005-7 / Obtaining a police check from Taiwan is relatively easy and can be done online..however with the Chinese police certificate..although we have not done it yet..I have been informed that I will have to fly my wife to China where she will need to go to the Police Bureau in the jurisdiction where she worked..first to get the police certificate however there are THREE additional steps. After she acquires the certificate from the Police Bureau she will need to take it to a public notary..for ?legalization??..following this ..she needs to take it to the department of external affairs and following that to the Philippine embassy in Beijing..all of this just to get a police certificate...of course there will be document expenses each step of the way.. I imagine between flights and hotels and food over the estimated two to three weeks waiting between each dept.'s processing time..this will cost me $2000.00 Cdn. for a twenty dollar document!!! Frustrated in Ontario.
