About:Chinese Embassy in New Zealand

I am currently working in Beijing on a Z-Visa. In a couple months it will run out and I would like to start a business here. I have been told that I must send my NZ passport to the China Embassy in NZ to be verified of its authenticity. Is this true? Can you explain the procedure? Is there an easier way? I arrived in China on the same passport but apparently it still must be validated in its issuing country . I have tried to contact the China Embassy on multiple occasions but they have not replied.

Thanks

I don't think that you need to send your New Zealand Passport to Chinese embassy in New Zealand for authentication, the purpose of authentication is to use the documents issued by home country in a foreign country, for example, the degree certificate/marriage license/birth certificate/business license issued by New Zealand should be authenticated by Chinese embassy if you want to use them in China, passport is an international travel document, it is recognized by all countries, therefore, there is no need to authenticate the passport.

From what I understand, I am to get it notarised before sending it to the China Embassy. From there the China Embassy are to put a stamp on it, not to authenticate it but to say that this step was completed. I think its a little strange myself but the lawyer I am consulting with has informed me that this is necessary.

I'm sort of stuck on what to do as I am unable to contact the China Embassy in New Zealand and also unable to find another option for getting a business up and running.

Thanks
