we are a family of 5 intending to visit beijing on the last week of may. a website offers airport transfers for US$75 for a van to pick us up from the airport to our hotel and bring us back for our flight home. would it be cheaper for us to just get a van from the airport when we arrive? are they readily available considering that the 5 of us might not fit in a cab? we are staying at novotel peace beijing in waifujing.also, how much would it cost us to hire a cab/van to take us around for one whole day? the tours are quite expensive especially that there are 5 of us.

If you are five adults, you have to rent a van since a Beijing cab only allows 4 adults together. If you take a cab to the hotel, the fare is about CNY120/cab by meter. So, the van quote is acceptable. As for traveling in Beijing, the suggested fare (without guide) is about CNY500~600 per day by van.
