About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

HI, I live in Hawaii, I am planning to leave here on 4/15/10 to a flight to shanghai(PVG) that arrives on 4/16/10 and leaves on 4/18. I will go to korea, to japan, and then back to hawaii. I was wondering if I would need to get a chinese visa. Would i be able to take 48 hour visa free to an advantage? Please let me know.. Thank you
