About:China Visa Exemption

Hi, I am a us citizen, I will be leaving Honolulu, then to Shanghai, staying for 46hours and leaving to Korea, then I will be going to Japan, then back to Honolulu. I was wondering if the 48-hour transit visa free thing will work for me. Should I apply for chinese visa? Please let me know..
