About:China Visa Exemption

Multi city travel within China

I am a US citizen and will be coming off a cruise ship in Tianjin and plan on staying in Beijing for 3 days and then travel to Shanghai for 3-4 days. Will I need a visa in Beijing since leaving the city? In Shanghai would the 144 hours visit free travel start in Shanghai or include Beijing? If over the 144 hours total, would I then need a visa?

Joan, according to what you said, you need to apply for a tourist L type for your entry to PRC. You should apply for it in your home country before your trip.
