About:China Work Visa

Hello,
I am an American working in China. I have acquired a work visa/residency permit through my current employer. The school I am working at may be closing in May. If this happens and I am no longer employed can I legally still stay in China? My residency permit doesnt expire until Aug, will it still be valid unemployed? I plan on moving my belongings to another part of China before exiting in June, can I do this? If not am I able to exit to HK and apply for a tourist visa and re-enter?
Thanks!

Mr.Carl, I guess that if the local police station doesn't cancel your residence permit, it is still valid, you can stay in China till the expiration of the residence permit. You can move your belongings to another place of China.
