Conversely, I need to leave my hotel to Pudong Airport for all 4 of us. What si the best mode of transport.

It is suggested that you take a cab from Hongqiao Airport to the hotel directly, the fare is about CNY50.From the hotel to Hongqiao, you could take a cab or metro to the nearby Jing'an Temple and then take the shuttle bus Line 2 to Pudong in one hour. The bus fare is CNY22/person.If you take a cab from the hotel to Pudong directly, the cab fare is about CNY120~150.
