About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Hi,
I hold Indian pass port and am travelling from singapore to Chicago. The break down of my journey is singapore to Shangai(reaching Shangai at 12.45 feb 26), shangai to Chicago( leaving Shangai at 17.00 Feb 26). So my transit time in china is 6 hours. Until china I am flying by Singapore airlines and from China to US by Continental airlines. Though the waiting time is less than 24 hours, i was told by Singapore airlines staff that in Shangai airport, my checked in baggage cannot be automatically send to the second flight. So I am supposed to collect the baggage self and check in, which requires me to take a transit Visa. however the staff wasn't sure though.. please advise, is there any new rule which requires passengers who transit Shangai to take a transit visa even if its less than 24 hours! thanks

Mr.vimal, you don't need a transit visa for 5 hours stopover, its true that you need collect your baggage and check in again in person, however, if you hold final destination tickets and have booked seats on international airliners flying directly through China, and will stay in a transit city for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport, you don't need a visa.
