About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Hi-

I have a 3 hour layover in Shanghai in 2 weeks time and I want to find out if I need a transit visa in this scenario (I am a Malaysian passport holder). I will be arriving on Asiana (from Seoul-Incheon) at 9 pm and departing on Singapore Airlines (to Singapore) at 12:10 am (technically the next day, but it's only 3:10 hours transit).

Based on my previous experience of transitting in Shanghai, I need to clear immigration to collect my luggages and check them in again with Singapore Airlines since Pudong does not offer international-to-international baggage connections. Therefore, I think I need to clear immigration and customs - will I need a transit visa in this case?

Thank you!!

No, you don't have to apply for a Transit Visa. When you arrive at the immigration, please tell the staff your situation and may show your onward flight ticket.
