how much is enough money?

How much is enough money? I ask because the visa requirements for Hong Kong specify the applicant has adequate funds to cover the duration of his/her stay without working; but it doesn't say how much is considered enough. For a 3 month language course in Hong Kong, how much money is considered adequate funds? $1000? $2500? $5000?
