bymistake i press reply. pls answer my question.hii'm us passport holder going to visit my family in india. from india i'm going to hong kong and from hong kong i'm plaining to go to SCHENZEN by road or by train. so i don't have a ticket yet. can i still get a visa without the ticket yet. i'll go to india and finalized the date. pls advise.

Where are you going to apply for a Chinese visa? in USA? in India? or in Hong Kong? I recommend you'd better apply for Chinese visa in USA, if you don't have time, you can apply for it in Hong Kong which is a easier place to get the Chinese visa.

if you apply for Chinese tourist visa in Hong Kong, Under some circumstances, the applicants may be required to provide financial proof, a copy of Chinese hotel booking and return flight ticket, but I guess you won't be asked for USA citizens.
