About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

Hi,

We are getting mixed answers... we are traveling through Shanghai back to the USA and will be in Shanghai for less than 24 hours and we do plan to leave the airport. Some sites say we are exempt from getting a transit visa and our travel agent is saying we do need a transit visa because when we go to re-board the flight, they will not let us on unless we haev a visa. Does anyone have any answers?

I'm sure that you don't have to apply for an transit visa. For USA passport holders, they can make a transit in Pudong without a visa in 48hours. When you arrive at the immigration of Pudong Airport, please tell your situation to the staff, who will give a stamp on your passport and maybe give you a paper. Then, you could leave the airport to downtown Shanghai and then back to the airport with this paper.
