About:Beijing Zoo

I am currently in Beijing and was planning on visiting the Zoo to see the Pandas and all other animals, but I have had very mixed reviews on the Zoo. Some people think it is worth while to see the Pandas and other people say that it is the worst zoo in the world and that the animals are neglected and in enclosures too small, that they look sad. I really want to see the Pandas but don;t want to go to a place that will upset me as I feel very strongly about animal abuse etc.

If anyone has been there recently, can you please let me know if this is a good attraction to visit or if I am going to cry and get angry at the same time? I am going to Xian and have the option of doing a Panda Tour there... Is this a better option?

Beijing Zoo is generally good, but the enclosures are truly small. I don't think it is an ideal place to see Pandas. The pandas look not very active and happy there. Shaanxi Rare Wild Animals Rescue and Breeding Research Center near Xian is better. If you have extra time and you really want to see the Pandas, i recommend that you go to Chengdu - the home of Pandas. :)

Thank you for the reply.

I will skip the zoo and go to the wildlife research centre. That sounds much more like what I had in mind and I will not cry my eyes out and start being mean to zoo people because they lock precious animals in horrible enclosures...
