About:Chinese Embassy in South Korea

Hi,
I'm planning on traveling to Beijing with a friend at the end of December. We both need to get Chinese visas (she's Australian and I'm American). Can I take her passport and information with me to the embassy in Seoul and get both of ours together or does she need to be present? Also, someone told me that we have to have 6 months left on our Alien Registration Cards - I thought we just need to have 6 months left on our passports. Is this accurate? What documents and paperwork are needed for this process (e.g. flight itinerary, picture)? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
