About:Yunnan Travel

I am planning to do a trip in Yunnan in 3rd week of January and I have a few queries:
1) Is there any place that is too cold that I should avoid during that time? Understand from a few guide books that I should avoid highlands.
2) Is near Chinese New Year, will i get a lot of inconvenience?
3) I would love to get to know the native people and interact with them, I speak Mandarin. Is it better to join a tour group in order to interact with them? Is it possible to go stay with them?
4) I am vegetarian. Would that be a problem?
5) Is there any ethnic festival during that period of time?

1,the weather of Yunnan is mild throughout a year, so please go there freely! Of course, the snow mountain is cold~
2. The Chinese New Year is in the middle of Feb, so it will not affect your travel. Of course, the airfare and hotel rate is not so nice while close to the New Year.
3. Seldom agent organizes tour group including Chinese and foreigners. However, you could book a home style hostels, where you will have much opportunities to communicate with locals, especially in Lijiang.
4. No, vegetable dishes and food could be found easily there.
