About:Chinese Embassy in Singapore

Hi, I'm Malaysia passport holder, I plan to visit China in December, I knew that I need to apply for a visa, may I know is it necessary to get a residential / accommodation address in China as a supporting document for visa application ? as I remember they did ask for it during Olympic time , but I'm not sure whether it is abolish after Olympic.

I think the residential/accommodation address is not necessary now.
