whats the different between single-entry visa, double-entry visamulti-entry visa

whats the different between Single-Entry Visa, Double-Entry Visa and Multi-Entry Visa with 6-month Validity ? is it hard to apply for visa to china? well i heard my friends say so. Actually i just visit china(wuhan) for 10 days, why still required a visa? pls advise. is my first time travelling so i hope my answer is quite objective to you. thanks alot!!
