Hello!  I am traveling with 2 adults from Beijing to Xi'an on Nov 1.  Would it be possible to purchase the tickets on the same day of departure?  Can I buy the return tickets (Xi'an-Beijing) from Beijing West train station?  If not, how can we purchase the tickets ahead of travel?

It may be a little bit difficult for you to purchase the train tickets of Xi'an to Beijing on the same day of departure since no one could guarantee its availability. As for buying the return tickets at Beijing West Train Station, sometimes it could be obtained, sometimes not. I've heard that the soft sleeping ticktes are much easier.
