Beware the vampires who await the foreign tourists getting off the bus from Taiyuan at Pingyao. With barely a second to think about it, you are herded into one of the small vehicles and transported a very short distance to the Pingyao city walls. You are then aggressively asked for 100 yuan, for something that is worth about 5 yuan at the most. Don't put up with this nonsense. Pay what you think it is worth! Apart from this, we had a wonderful time at Pingyao, and are thankful to Sara of the Harmony Guest House for organising a taxi from Pingyao to the Taiyuan airport for us. Very simple, quite inexpensive, and fast.
