Do you buy the transport card at a counter or can you buy it from the vending machine? How do you say the transport card in Chinese? Can I just say I want to buy transport card? Thanks

The card could just be purchased from the designated counters. It is called Jiao Tong Ka (交通卡)in Chinese. Yes, please tell the staff that you would like to buy a piece of 'Jiao Tong Ka'.
