About:Chinese Embassy in India

My son has got a job offer for 1 year contract from a NGO in Hainan Island, China. The employer is suggesting that he travels to China on a tourist visa or business F visa so that after he reaches there his passport can be submitted to Foreign Ministry Bureau to obtain a work visa , so that he can start working with them. I want to know whether this is a done thing or anything illegal about this ? what is the risk involved here ? What are the chances of getting the tourist visa converting into work visa ? Please suggest and reply immediately as we need to decide our further course of action.

Your son can enter China with a tourist or business visa, and then change the visa to a work visa when he is in China with the help of the employer. It is legal and it is not a risk. If he can't get the work visa when he is in China, he still has a valid visa in Hand with which he can stay in China for 30 days.

Thank you for your reply Mr Michael. Can you also clarify when he goes on tourist visa - and gets his documentation cleared at China for work permit - does he has to come back to India and his work visa stamped and go back to China to start working ? Please revert.
