About:Chinese Consulate in Brisbane

Hello,

I am going to China for a 9 day tour and a 4 day conference at the end of the tour. Should I apply for tourist or business visa? Chinese consulate is NOT answering phones in any city in Australia, I have tried them all. Conference organiser says apply for tourist, travel agent says apply for business. ???? I am not going to make any money in China or do any business, it is an academic conference (I present a paper)amnd most of the time I am visiting as tourist. I have a letter from conference organisers and will get one from tour organiser - but why do they give me these letters if tourist visa does not require them ? Can anyone give reliable help pls?
