About:Bao'en Temple Pagoda

I've been given a job with a Chinese company and everything but when I went to the consulate they would only give me a tourist visa even though I presented an invitation letter. My question is can I apply for a work visa and anything else I need when I get to China? I've heard stories of people going with only tourist visas and having to be audited by the Foreign Office and sometimes getting deported.

For applying China work visa, you have to provide a government issued Employment Permit and Visa Notification Letter instead of an invitation letter.

You can ask your employer of China to provide you a government issued Employment Permit and Visa Notification Letter for your work visa application.

So does that mean I can't apply for a work visa once I get to China even though I have the job already?

If you have been employed by the China company, it is their responsibility to provide the documents for your visa application.
