we are thinking about going either the first two weeks of September or the first two weeks of November for about 12-14 days. We chose those time periods as we do not want to be there during national holidays such as October 1. We are assuming there will be less tourists the first two weeks in November and the weather will be cooler and less rain. Based on your experience (we know you can not predict the weather), would you recommend Nov or Sept?

You are right that the first week of October is National Holiday and it will be crowded everywhere. Usually the golden time to visit China is April and September. Since it will be the early autumn in September, weather probably will be gentle and temperature will be mild. It is also fine to visit in November, but the temperature will be lower than it is in September. Maybe you will feel a little cold in November.
