Hi Christine,Shanghai is approx. 5 hours from Huangshan by car.  Perhaps you can consider flying into Shanghai.Shanghai is a nice place to visit with lots, somewhat similar to Hong Kong, but shopping is more expensive due to Tax and Duty.From Shanghai you can take a bullet train to Hangzhou, famous for its West Lake.There are hourly bus services from Hangzhou to Huangshan. There are hotel inside the scenic area up in the mountain.  Its condition is acceptable.  You should plan to stay 2 to 3 nights in Huangshan.You can return via air from the Huangshan airport.
