August is Hong Kong's wettest month and also is the month which is most prone to thunderstorms (which usually happen in the morning at about 10am but can happen at any time of day). Hong Kong is sunny 52% of the time but expect to see a considerable amount of cloud. But HK is gorgeous in this month when the sun is out because everything is lush and green and the sky is crystal clear blue. You probably won't find a visually more beautiful month than August here. Just be aware that it is also the most unpleasant with regards to the heat index. Just be aware the cyclones and long-lasting (although rare) "black rainstorms' or "red rainstorms" could occur during this time. Typhoons can also occur at this time of year. Good trip.

It rains in Hong Kong for 73 hours on average during this month which is slightly more than July's 67 hours but nonetheless not too bad. It's also a tad cloudier and duller than July but nonetheless not too bad at all. In the future, if you want to come back to HK and hate rain that tends to linger, avoid the spring months (esp May - which sees the highest ratio of rain hours out of the month's hours at 12% of the time) and spring also is the dullest, cloudiest and foggiest time. This means that on average, it rains in HK 10% of the time during August. And if you see the rain (which you most likely will during the morning hours) it can be quite spectacular if you've never witnessed a tropical downpour before (maybe the winter downpours in Dubai's winter are similar but I dunno haha). Either way, the rain shouldn't disrupt your trip too much. If you were worried about anything in regards to the weather here, I'd be more concerned about typhoons and feeling hot. DON'T GO HIKING DURING THIS MONTH WHATEVER YOU DO!!!
