About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is an Indonesian passport eligible for 24-hour visa-free transit

Good day,

I am an Indonesian passport holder and I am planning a trip to China next month with the following travel route:

Travel details:

12 February 2026: Jakarta (CGK) → Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

13 February 2026: Kuala Lumpur (KUL) → Hong Kong (HKG)

Return journey:

16 February 2026: Guangzhou → Hanoi → Jakarta

Hotel stay:

13–14 February: Stay in Hong Kong

15–16 February: Stay in Macau

On 16 February 2026, I will exit Macau and enter Guangzhou by train.

Question:
Does entering Guangzhou meet the requirements for the 24-hour visa-free transit?

Magda, here we have two details that need to be corrected:

1. There is no direct train connection between Macau and Guangzhou and consequently you cannot use it to travel from Macau to Guangzhou in a direct way. You can do something else. You can exit Macau / enter mainland China via Hengqin border crossing (southern part of Macau - Cotai area) and then proceed from Hengqin train station to Zhuhai main train station by intercity train (15 - 20 minutes of ride, 35 daily departures, you should not book this train in advance, but when you arrive there in person). When you arrive at Zhuhai main station you will take a train to Guangzhou.

2. In order to be allowed to perform your planned trip, you cannot do it under 24, but under 240 hour visa free transit and that means that your stay in mainland China has to be longer than 24 hours for at least a minute. So, you will have to enter mainland China at Hengqin border crossing 24 hours + 1 minute before your scheduled departure from Guangzhou to Hanoi. This is essential. In other words, you have to plan your entry carefully in order not to arrive at the border crossing if your time you will spend in mainland China is shorter than 24 hours.
