About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Philippine passport holder transiting from Shanghai to Nagoya Japan

I am likely to stay in Shanghai for more than 24 hours before my flight to Japan. Do I need to secure a transit visa? If so, can I apply this upon arrival at the airport?

Ruel, in case if your transit time in Shanghai, counted from your scheduled arrival in Shanghai until your scheduled departure from Shanghai is longer than 24 hours, in that case you cannot rely on 24 hour visa free transit, but you will have to obtain a Chinese transit (G) visa in advance in the Chinese diplomatic (visa) mission. I'm sorry for bringing you these unfavorable news, but it is better to know the facts in advance than to be refused boarding when you arrive at the airport. I hope you will have enough time to obtain a Chinese transit visa in order to travel with a peace of mind.
