Your entire itinerary is definitely and undoubtedly eligible for 240 hour visa free transit policy. I would like to inform you now because we have just received an information that it will be allowed to travel from Hong Kong West Kowloon station toward mainland China by train starting from November 5 (just two days from today). This is something that was not allowed until now, but it will be of huge benefit to many. In other words, it does not have such a huge impact on your itinerary because you will really have to travel to Macau in order to enter mainland China from there. However, you do not have to take a ferry from Macau to Shekou, but you can literally cross Hengqin border crossing between Macau and Zhuhai. This is also a brand new addition that will become operational starting from November 5. Your return will be by ferry to Hong Kong, of course and you have to buy your ferry ticket from Zhuhai (Jiuzhou port) to Hong Kong even before you depart from Macau toward mainland China.
You will fill out mainland Chinese arrival card upon your arrival in Shekou or another border crossing, mainland China side.
When you arrive at the mainland China border crossing side, for example Shekou, you will fill out arrival card, tick the box - transit on it and then perform fingerprinting on automatic fingerprinting machine. After that you will approach to 24/240 hour visa free transit counter (possibly integrated with immigration and somewhere with visa offices), but you should be careful not to mistakenly apply for a Shenzhen or Zhuhai VOA. This is not what you want, but you will apply for a temporary entry permit under 240 hour visa free transit scheme. This is free of charge. You should have your exit ticket at hand and also it is highly advisable to have at least the first overnight in mainland China booked in advance because you will be asked to present your address in China and the best answer is the name of the hotel. Have a nice visit to China.
