Your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. If you fly by Hainan Airlines you will have about 9 hours of layover at Beijing airport. You can decide what do you want. You can decide to stay in the transit area of the airport and in that case you will just walk from one to the other gate and you do not have to perform any formality and you also do not need to fill out any forms. Also, you will not be a subject of immigration or customs inspections. However, if you plan to exit the airport, then, immediately upon your landing in Beijing, you will first fill out arrival card and tick the box - transit on the arrival card and then proceed to automatic fingerprinting. When you have done this, you will proceed to 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your flight tickets and apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. This application is free of any charge. When you have received your temporary entry permit you will proceed toward the immigration and then into the city to enjoy your time on your own.
