About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

7h30 min layover Pekin

Hello,

I have a 7h30min layover in Shanghai and would like to use the time to visit the forbidden city. We are coming from Spain and going to Thailand. Some people are telling us that authorities are denying entry for tourist staying less than 8h, other tell us that if we have a tour booked they will allow us to leave no doubt. Can you please advice?

The reality is that all passengers traveling through Beijing on 24 hour visa free transit cannot be certain if they will be granted a permission, called temporary entry permit, to exit the airport. This entirely depends on airport authorities and their discretionary decision on a day. Since your layover is really a short one in the eyes of airport authorities, probably only a booked tour could offer you a reasonable chance to be allowed to exit the airport. However, nobody will suggest you to do that because the outcome is definitely uncertain. Let it be your decision knowing that you can be refused a permit.
