About:China Visa on Arrival

China trip via HKG

I hold a UK passport and have purchased a return flight in and out of HKG.

I’m planning on visiting China, beyond Shenzhen, via Lo Wu (pedestrian bridge). What do I need as proof of transportation? And how do I get this?

Thank you.

If you plan to use Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing you can only obtain a Shenzhen 5 day visa on arrival that will limit you to Shenzhen city limits only. If you want to travel beyond Shenzhen you will have to rely on 240 hour visa free transit and in this case you cannot use Lo Wu / Luohu, but you can take a ferry from Hong Kong (even Skypier from the airport) to Shekou in Shenzhen or to Nansha located south from Guangzhou. These are the only eligible ports of entry under 240 hour visa free transit along the plane transport, of course. Also, after your stay in mainland China, you cannot return directly to Hong Kong, but you have to exit mainland China in direction to Macau. You will have to buy your Shekou to Macau ferry ticket even before you depart from Hong Kong to mainland China via TurboJet ferry website. Exactly this entry ticket is an essence of your 240 hour visa free transit eligibility. You have to be aware that you will really have to use exactly that ferry you have bought your ticket for. Id you want you can also start your journey from Hong Kong to Macau, by ferry to Shekou and finally return to Hong Kong by high speed train. Use of high speed train is valid as an exit from mainland China, but as a mean of entry into mainland China. Have a nice visit to China.
