Karen, Indonesia is not on the list of China visa-free countries. If you just plan to transit Mainland China from country A to country B (HK, Macau, Taiwan included in this case) with a layover shorter than 24 hours, there is no need to prepare a visa. If you come to travel or for other purposes, a visa is required. To check if you are eligible for 24h visa free transit: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/free-transit-24hour.htm.
