About:Do I Need A Visa for Guangzhou If Traveling from Hong Kong?

US passport holder HK to Guangzhou by rail then leave by flying to Taipei

Do I need a visa if I'm taking high speed train from HK to Guangzhou, then stay for 5 days before flying out of Baiyun airport for Taipei to catch flight back to USA. Thanks.

Yes, you are required. But if you enter Guangzhou through Nansha Port by ferry, you can enjoy China’s 240h visa free transit with a route of HK – Guangzhou – Taipei, meaning that you can enter Guangzhou without a ready visa. In this case, you only need to apply for a 240h stay permit upon arrival for your 5-day travel.
