About:Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid in Completing a Chinese Visa Application Form

Day Trip

We are staying in Hong Kong for the duration of our trip, however we want to visit mainland China on a day trip to Guangzhou & Shenzhen. We won't be staying overnight in China, as we will get the train back to the apartment we have rented in Hong Kong. Is a day trip like this possible and given we won't have any hotel reservation details in mainland China, will this be a problem for getting the visa approved?

You can do a day trip to Shenzhen as you can get the Shenzhen VOA at Luohu, Huanggang or Shekou port. But to Guangzhou, you need a visa if you need to go back to HK at night.

Actually, it's not difficult to get a regular China visa in HK.
