About:China Visa Application in USA

Traveling from US to Beijing to visit my family and visit as tourist in April or May

I would like to travel from USA to Beijing for a 8 or 10 day stay. From Beijing I would like to travel to Japan for 3 days. From Japan I will return to USA. Will I need a visa for China?
