About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can my initial flight into China include a layover in China?

For example -- Hanoi -> Guangzhou (layover) -> Chongqing -> Beijing -> Seoul

Will I be eligible for the 240 hour visa free travel? There are no direct flights from Hanoi to Chongqing.

Yes, it definitely can. Under 240 hour visa free transit you can have several stops within mainland China and you can cross the provincial borders. In other words, you can visit several parts of mainland China within your permitted 240 hours stay in the country. You should just be aware that all the formalities as far as the entry into mainland China are concerned are performed at the very first point of entry into the country. This is nothing problematic, but I mention this just for your information. After the first port of entry, all other travels (flights included) are treated as domestic. Have a nice journey.
