Flight transit through china, shanghai visa type enquiry

I’m Zimbabwean and i’ll be traveling to japan from Zimbabwe. I booked a flight to Shanghai and another flight is scheduled the next day from shanghai to japan . I’ll have about 24 hrs in shanghai (including the time I’ll have to check out and check in at the airport in shanghai ), what visa will i need to enter shanghai city in those few hours before my next flight. How, when and where do I apply. Thanks to those that will help.
