About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240-hour visa-free transit policy

We are residing in the UK and we are planning a trip to China and Malaysia to visit family. Our planned itinerary involves traveling as UK - Malaysia - Fujian Province - Malaysia - UK.

I was just wondering is the 240-hour visa-free transit policy applies to our situation.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance or advice.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Unfortunately, your itinerary is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit schemes, 240 hour visa free transit included.

The very basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit clearly requires that the immediate points before and after your visit to China have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). As you can see, both of your immediate points are in a single country - Malaysia. This is not considered a transit, but a round (return) trip. If you retain this plan, you will have to obtain a Chinese visa in advance.

You can also be creative and insert another country or territory into your itinerary and consequently obtain an eligible itinerary, for example:

Malaysia - Taiwan - Fujian Province - Malaysia

or Malaysia - Fujian province - Hong Kong - Malaysia

There are many more combinations, so check and find one that suits you best and enjoy 240 hour visa free transit scheme. Have a nice journey.
