HK - Guangzhou - Malaysia is an eligible route. But you cannot travel by train in this case, because the railway stations do not issue the visa-free entry stamp. You need to travel by flight to Guangzhou Baiyun airport or ferry to Nansha.

Thank you for your response Amy. Are you sure the Hong Kong railway doesn't have the visa free stamps? Malaysia is visa free 30 days in China. (Not 240hrs visa free transit) Was told I can enter by air, sea or land. Thank you in advance

Under the 30-day visa free policy for Malaysia citizens, you can enter visa-free via any open port and via any transport, so you can travel as planned by train from HK to Guangzhou. Remember to prepare the ticket to leave mainland China within 30 days before entering.
