fly inout of beijing but on completely separate flights?

I have a flight booked to Beijing Capital International airport. I am looking to stay 5-6 days without a Visa using the 144 hour transit rule and to then take a separate flight to either South Korea or Japan. I have read about flights needing to be 'interlined' or 'connected flights' is this correct? would it be an issue if my flight into china is completely separate from my flight out of china? do you just need a flight ticket with date and seat number? or does the flight out have to be connected/booked on the same ticket as the flight into china? thanks

It's absolutely OK to be separated tickets as long as you hold a booked ticket to leave China for a third country or region within 6 days. Just make sure you don't have a layover in other cities of other eligible 144 areas when you fly into China.

Thank you for your reply. I'm pretty confident about the actual layover and the time limits etc. My concern is the type of ticket / tickets I hold for the flight. If they are connecting/interlined tickets I can see how this would look maybe a bit more convincing than having separate tickets, especially with separate airlines. I read of someone being denied boarding from UK to China on BA because as far as the airline are concerned it looks like you are just going to China and there is no connected ticket showing you will leave. But I have also seen that you could leave by train or even boat in some cases to leave China after flying in. Just don't want to have any issues as it will be my first time in China.

You need to book the separate return flight ticket before you travel to China to prove that you will come back on time.
