About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Canadian passport visiting Shenzhen from Hong Kong

Hello,
My relatives have 2 adults and 2 children, all Canadian passport holders, and they would like to travel to Shenzhen from Hong Kong. They have arrived from Canada and will be staying in Hong Kong for 6 days, before heading to the next city in Asia.

1) Their plan is a day trip to Shenzhen from Hong Kong (Hong Kong - Shenzhen - Hong Kong within 24 hours) - this is not eligible for 24 hour visa free transit right?

2) what kind of visa will they need to go to Shenzhen for a day?

Thank you.

Michelle, they should simply have to obtain a 5 day Shenzhen VOA at one of three designated border crossings and with opening hours from 09:00 to roughly 16:30. Simply speaking, there is no other way and there is no other option.

My suggestion is that they appear at Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing in the morning hours where they will apply for a visa. They will fill out the form, the photo of them will be taken. The price of a visa is 130 CNY per every person and it has to be paid by card.

One more suggestion, they should not arrive later than 08:30 at the border crossing because otherwise they could encounter larger queues.

Please, you should know that taking a direct train from West Kowloon station to Shenzhen is not eligible option, but they can return by taking that train.
