Transit Visa 144hrs

Hi my itinerary is:
Flying London to Hong Kong for connecting flight to Shanghai, spending 4 nights in Shanghai then boarding cruise ship for 7 nights to Japan returning to Shanghai and journey to airport for return flights to Hong Kong for connecting flight to London, cruise ship does not stop at any other ports, will this qualify for 144hr transit visa.

Yes, your itinerary is fine for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai - twice. Please, try to use correct terminology because this is 144 hour visa free transit and not 144 hour visa. There is no any kind of visa involved at all.

So, when you arrive in Shanghai for the first time, the first thing you will do is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your flight and cruise tickets as well as your hotel booking. This is all free of any charge. After a short check, you will be granted a permit and then you will head to the immigration and to Shanghai to enjoy your time on your own.

During your second arrival in Shanghai, you will do the same, but at the cruise terminal. Depending on the length of your stay in Shanghai for your second arrival, you will be granted 24 hour visa free transit if your entire transit time in Shanghai will be shorter than 24 hours or 144 hour visa free transit if your layover will be longer than 24 hours. In any case, you do not need any kind of visa and you are, basically, ready to go. Have a nice trip in this part of the world.
