About:Visa on Arrival

If Bao'an International Airport does not issue the visa on arrival, then how do I get a travel visa?

If Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport does not issue the visa on arrival, then how do I issue the 5 day travel visa? I am flying in from South Korea and I have both a South Korean and United States passport. Would I need to apply for a visa beforehand or can I get one issued at the airport?

Part 1:

Indeed, Shenzhen airport does not issue visa on arrival, so this is not an option. However, I would suggest you to rely on 144 hour visa free transit in order to avoid the entire hassle with the visa issuing. You did not mention the country or territory where you will head after Shenzhen, but if you plan to some third country or territory different than South Korea, you can use 144 hour visa free transit that is even better than 5 days visa on arrival because you can travel within the entire Guangdong province and not only within Shenzhen.

If you have a return ticket, so returning back to South Korea after Shenzhen, you can do one thing that will make your life easier.

You can split your planned stay in Shenzhen in two halves or in the way you like. So, after a two or three days, you can take a direct train from Shenzhen to West Kowloon train station in Hong Kong. You should carefully plan this option because to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, you will have to buy your train ticket in advance, even before you depart from South Korea. You should print out a confirmation of that ticket and hold it with you as a proof of your transit intention. Also, you will really have to take exactly that train you have bought your ticket for.

When you arrive in Hong Kong you will transfer to the ferry harbor from where you will immediately take a direct ferry to Shekou port in Shenzhen. This is a valid option for another 144 hour visa free transit valid for entire Guangdong province. Your flight for South Korea will be a proof for another transit through Guangdong province. You should just keep in mind to reach Shekou port before 16:00 and plan to stay in Shenzhen at least a minute longer than 24 hours in order to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.

As you can see, like this you will use 144 hour visa free transit scheme twice and legally avoid the hassle of obtaining a visa in advance. Yes, even this travel to Hong Kong and back is somewhat a hassle, but probably less than obtaining a visa. Of course, you can obtain a visa if you want.

Like this you will have to transit itineraries:

South Korea - Shenzhen - Hong Kong

and

Hong Kong - Shenzhen - South Korea

This is all perfectly within the rules and you can proceed with your travel plans. You should just take care that your flights from South Korea to Shenzhen and vice versa do not have any additional landing within mainland China of any kind. Have a nice journey.
