About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24-hour TWOV

Hi,
I am flying from Prague to Haikou with a stopover in Beijing. My arrival in Beijing is on November 23rd at 5:20 a.m. I will then continue to Haikou, where I would like to leave the airport for sightseeing for approximately 14 hours. My final departure from China is scheduled for November 24th at 2:30 a.m., with a flight to Auckland.

Can I leave the airport in Haikou under the 24-hour TWOV program, even though my first entry into China is in Beijing? The total time spent in China will not exceed 24 hours. Or do I need to apply for a transit visa to be able to leave the airport in Haikou?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Martin, your itinerary is definitely and undeniably eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. At the time of check-in in Prague, you will declare that you will fly from Prague to New Zealand via China using 24 hour visa free transit scheme. This scheme allows you to have multiple stops within China, so your itinerary is fine. After a short check, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon landing in Beijing the first thing you will do is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets. This application is absolutely free of any charge. After a short check, you will be granted a permit any you will head to the immigration to formally enter China and to head to the gate for your flight to Haikou. So, your next flight, regardless if it is performed by the same aircraft is purely a domestic one.

So, upon landing in Haikou, you do not cross any formalities or in other words, you are free to head to Haikou in order to enjoy some sightseeing. When the time arrives, you will return to the airport in order to catch your flight to Auckland. You will cross the immigration and head to the gate for your flight. Have a nice journey.
